Valentine Toddler Crafts

Salt Dough Valentine Gifts

First up Mia's gift to her Daddy...

Okay, so I'd seen a similar idea done and having done salt dough hand prints for Christmas I thought we'd give this a go! It was much harder than I thought. Mainly down to the fact Mia is 2 and so her feet together made the heart bigger than I'd first thought. However we got there together, made lots of mess together but happy with the end result for Daddy.
She loved making the dough and we rolled it out together but her favourite part was making her print! We did this at least 5/6 times before we got to this result. She was also able to paint the hearts below, again lots of mess which she loved.

We had lots of dough left over so we decided to do some gifts for the family. Next year I'll be able to do Jack/Father Valentine with Mia (Google it if you don't know what this is) so this is my little spin on it until she is old enough to participate.

My Salt Dough Recipe:
1 Cup of Plain Flour
1 Cup of Salt
1/2 Cup of Water
Add in some Food Colouring to make the marble effect

To Decorate ~ Acyclic Paint
A Fine Black Permanent Marker
Clear Nail Varnish

Valentines Bakes

Two super simple, yet super yummy treats for your loved one this Valentines...

First up, my Red Velvet Cupcakes.

175g Butter
175g Caster Sugar
175g Self Raising Flour
3 eggs (or the equivalent of 175g)
Small amount of Baking Powder
25g Cocoa
Dash of Red Food Colour ~ I am LOVING SugarFlair food colour paste at the moment!

Mix the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add in your sieved flour in 3 stages with an egg each time.
Mix in your baking powder and cocoa and all the dry ingredients are combined with the mixed and stir in your red food colour.
Cook at 180* for approximately 15-20 minutes

Traditionally Red Velvet cake is topped with a cream cheese icing, but as neither of us are a fan, I've used red butter cream.

Next up, my Vanilla Heart Cookies.

200g Butter
200g Caster Sugar
1 egg
400g Plain Flour
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Mix together all your wet ingredients and then slowly add your flour. When the mixture is too thick to mix, turn out onto the worktop and kneed into a dough. I then let the dough rest in the fridge for up to an hour before rolling out and baking.
Cook at 150* for approximately 10 minutes or until the underneath of your biscuit is turning a golden brown.

Icing was simply Icing Sugar, water and food colour and a little creativity!

I presented mine in my cupcake case but there are tons of ideas in Pinterest to wrap your baked goodies!
